Upcoming Events
Thursday Night XC The first of the XC Thursday Night Races, raced at the Redwoods on the 6th of April, was super successful! We held two races on the night, with the first being a novice race. This is aimed at juniors and first-time XC racers, with the course modified to allow for two laps of the Redwoods circuit. If you are curious about night riding, this is a perfect way to introduce yourself to racing, and it was awesome to see 4 riders complete the race with huge grins. The second race was an open race, held over 45 minutes. We had a massive field of 28 riders. This was won by James Howard, who completed 5 laps within the allocated time. James was followed by Jayden Toomey and Miles Gibson. The top female racers were Amber Werensteyn followed by Erin Hasler and Alice Coombs. The general vibe of the series is fun, with entry only being $5 – so no real impediment to not giving it a whirl!! Any bike is fine (incl Enduro and Gravel), just don’t forget your lights! We are holding a further 5 races over the winter period, with the tracks alternating between the Redwoods and Forrester Park. All the courses are rated Blue, so not technical at all. If you have any questions, please reach out by sending a message to our FB Page “Dunedin XC MTB Racing”, or just enter and have some fun A massive thanks to Off the Chain Cycles for supporting the series.
Next Race Thursday the 4th of May! 6pm – Novice & Kids (approx. 20mins) 6.25pm – Full XC Race (approx 45mins) Aimed at getting all those who want to do some night riding out in the darker, cooler months All abilities welcomed Checkout the new Dunedin XC MTB Racing Facebook page

Local Achievements
Recently, local mountain biker (and roadie!) James Gardner has had some huge success on slick tires! James Gardner won the Oceania honors in the points race and is a triple national champion in pursuit, omnium, and points! He’s also recently been selected for Junior Worlds in August! A huge congratulations to James!
Club member Jake Remon recently went over to Tasmania to compete in the first two rounds of the EDR (Enduro world cup) After success at round 1 in Maydena, placing 3rd in Open U21 and qualifying for the elite race for round 2, here is what he had to say about Derby “Started the day with three crashes on the first stage and a few grazes to wake me up. Pieced together a couple of safe runs throughout the middle to claw back to 25th after stage 5. Sadly had a mechanical and snapped my cranks mid way down a pedally stage 6 so had to walk my way to the bottom. Tough way to finish an epic trip in Tazzy but I’ve learned heaps and am stoked I got to race with the big kids nonetheless “
Tough luck for round 2! But sounds like an awesome experience
Event Reports
The Dunners Stunners Enduro was held on the 16th of April at Signal Hill Dunedin. We had 44 women participate, including some who travelled all the way from Wanaka and Christchurch just for the event. We are stoked to see the progression of women’s mountain biking, and the ever-increasing levels of participation. However, we are acutely aware that the number of women signing up to race, and compete in events, still pales in comparison to men. The Dunners Stunners Enduro is aimed at bringing together females of all riding abilities, with a focus on giving beginner and intermediate riders a taste of racing in a positive and encouraging environment. This year the 3 stage was made up of blue trails and the 5 stage was made up of blue & black trails. There was so much stoke and so many smiles from all the riders. It was awesome getting to see the women’s MTB community come together. We had women of all ages and backgrounds participate, the youngest rider was just 10 years old! We couldn’t have done it without all of our amazing sponsors. We had so many epic spot prizes and snacks on the day. The sun was shining and we couldn’t have asked for a better day.
